Transgender Healthcare, Able-bodied Privilege, and Depression (vlog)

In this 3 minute video I share my experiences seeking medical care as a transgender woman, what temporary loss of mobility taught me about able-bodied privilege, and my struggle with depression – the reason I’ve been absent from social media for the past couple of months.

Have you struggled with an injury or loss of mobility?

What was your experience with medical care?

Do you have any insights or wisdom to share that may be helpful to others?

When you’re depressed, do you share less on social media, or more?

Knowledge is power and the more knowledge we share, the more we empower each other! Everyone wins!

Please take a moment to share your experiences, thoughts, advice, and opinions in a comment. If you find value in these topics, please share this with your friends and widen the discussion!

Here’s a link to the video on my Facebook page, if you’d rather share there.

  1. Good to see you “back on your feet”. Missed your videos. Hang in there, I understand all to well about depression and reduced mobility. (Particularly the depression.) I am fortunate to have a support network (which many of us do not) that gets me over the roughest spots.

Again, great to see you back!!

  2. Sure do, I broke my back pretty badly while paragliding.. spent about 3 years recovering… Finally all good..ish now though.

    1. Tanks for sharing, Tanya! :) Paragliding sounds really exciting! A broken back does not. I can’t imagine what that must have been like. I’m happy to hear you’re better now.

My foot is also “good..ish”, as you put it. The bones have healed, but the pinched nerve remains, and causes intense pain at times. I’m starting to wonder if it’s just going to be like that from now on. Not fun. At the same time, I’m still so grateful to be able to walk (mostly) normally again. And still grateful for the lessons learned.

Here’s to us both reaching that 100% healed mark, my friend! <3
